Digital take off

Merchants in e-commerce

Introduction:

Since August 2018, companies have been training in the vocational profession of retail clerks in e-commerce. This way, online retail is gaining qualified young professionals in its various fields.

The school part of the training takes place in block or part-time format, we have linked information about it for you in the download area. Unfortunately, we can only train new apprentices in the spring if there is significantly greater demand.

The school-internal curriculum for this vocational training profession has been developed by a team of teachers and e-commerce experts. It depicts the operational challenges and processes in e-commerce. For this purpose, the learning fields are divided into large sequences and complex learning situations related to online commerce are developed.

The trainees are dealing, among other things, with the design of a webshop, the metrics-based analysis of the online range, or the selection of an appropriate sales strategy.

They learn the fundamentals of accounting, engage with online marketing, customer communication, and much more.

The experiences gained together are systematically integrated into a continuous improvement process. Detailed information about this training occupation can also be found on the Website of the Handelskammer Hamburg. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact the head of the vocational school by email.

About the vocational training

What is e-commerce and what are the contents of the training?

Lesson organization:

The classes in e-commerce can be held part-time or in block format. The decision for the respective form of instruction is fundamentally up to the training companies. In the summer semester, we are currently unable to establish new classes due to insufficient enrollment numbers.

Currently, about 150 trainees are being educated, approximately equally divided between block instruction and part-time classes.

Organization of part-time education

The part-time classes start after the summer holidays and take place on two days per week throughout the school year. It consists of two teaching days with eight or four teaching hours during a school year. The school days per grade, which change from year to year, can be found under the link part-time schedules.

Organization of block teaching

In each training year, two teaching blocks with a total instructional time of approximately 13 weeks are offered. The classes consist of 34 instructional hours per week. The block instruction usually starts at the end of November and is organized around the holidays, so that the teaching blocks of varying lengths are scheduled between the Hamburg holidays. The schedules can be found under the link Block schedules.

Training content:

The entire teaching is based on the respective valid regulation on vocational training or the valid framework curriculum from November 24, 2017, for the training occupation of Management Assistant in E-Commerce.

Curriculum of the vocational school

The teaching content and organization are based on the so-called learning field concept. The training content is divided into 12 learning fields, the structuring of which is oriented towards the typical business processes of a company in online trading. In addition, technical English, topics from the fields of economics and society, as well as language and communication are covered.

We have linked the curriculum timetable for you.

The lessons are complemented by a profile area where specific competencies are acquired in greater depth. Due to the small number of classes, we offer a specialization in business informatics. Here, there is a subject-specific enhancement and connection with the contents of the learning fields.

Technical English

This subject is taught in classroom groups at two levels (B1 and B2). Level B1 (Threshold) is for trainees with the First School Leaving Certificate (eSA) or the Intermediate School Leaving Certificate (mSA).

Level B2 (Vantage) is for students with a Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur) or a Fachhochschulreife (FHR).

In specialized English, students at level B2 can obtain a Europe-wide recognized certificate from the Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) with an internal final exam.

Certificate English KMK Exam

This certificate is supplemented by a voluntarily taken school internal additional examination in the subject of English (KMK examination) at level B2.

Exam:

In principle, the training is designed to last for three years, with the possibility of shortening it in accordance with the BBiG. Information about shortening or the early examination can be found on the pages of the Handelskammer. Information about the final examination is available here.

Since August 1, 2020, there is the 'extended final examination.' The final examination part 1 takes place in the fourth year of training. If the training contract is shortened or an application for early admission is submitted, the examination date may vary.

The oral part of the final examination takes place about six weeks after the respective written final examination at various locations in Hamburg. Separate invitations will be sent out for this. The invitations for the written and oral examinations are sent by post by the Handelskammer approximately two weeks before the examination date.

As part of the final examinations of the Handelskammer Hamburg, a certificate is issued. It documents the written performance of the final examination and the case-related professional discussion or, alternatively, the project report.

For questions regarding the final examination, please contact the Handelskammer. They are responsible for the organization and execution of the final exams.

The dates for the exams are published by the "Examination Office for Commercial Final and Intermediate Examinations".

We have linked the examination schedule here for you.

The exact examination times and the examination rooms can be found in the invitations from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.

The exam results for Hamburg and the nationwide results can be found on this website.
